Lufthansa DC-4 freighter

While browsing through some old photos on the history section of the Saint John N.B. airport website, I came across this photo.  I had no idea Lufthansa had DC-4 freighters.  Here is one loading up lobsters to fly them back to Germany.  This photo is dated 3 April, 1958.

How many of these did they have and when did they use them?  I knew they used C-46's as freighters, but not DC-4s.

Here is the website,  some nice old photos on it.

Hi Mike,

This aircraft was a C-54G-DC (CAA/FAA designation for converted C-54G-5-DO), c/n 35986. It belonged to Transocean, registrated N9864F, and was leased to Lufthansa from sometime in 1958 till April 1959. It was the only DC-4/C-54 Lufthansa leased, as far as I could see. So indeed a unique example.

Cheers,
Maarten

I love these Mercedes airport shuttle busses!  They look like a cross between a giant VW bus and the old Helm's bakery truck  Tongue

I took a bus trip from the border with Peru to Santiago the Capital of Chile, in something similar to this in the late 1980s.

the  only version of the rail adapted vehicles below I ever saw in the flesh was a Landrover 110 pick-up for european standard gauge, with a flat bed rear and a cherry picker mounted on it.
