GA Traffic for the Cal Classic 1959/62 Scenery

Version 4a with updated aircraft list 9/2023

By Noel Sivertson and Tom Gibson

Support available at: http://calclassic.proboards.com/board/3/calclassic-discussion

THIS PACKAGE REQUIRES YOU TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL MOST OF THE AI AIRCRAFT SEPARATELY! The aircraft installation instructions are pretty much self explanatory. Some modifications are required so read the instructions carefully.

Noel's traffic was made exclusively for Tom Gibson's California Classics CA59/62 scenery, and is also designed to be used with the Cal Classic Propliner AI Traffic. It contains 846 flight planes for 54 general aviation aircraft circa 1959 (about) covering 221 California airports. You will also find one aircraft performing touch and goes at each airport he developed traffic for.

There are also default flight plans for the rest of the world, but using the same classic planes.

All of these aircraft are reasonably frame rate friendly models, so you will not need to have a fast computer to avoid frame rate problems. A more detailed version with more variety is available if desired.

INSTALLATION:

This EXE installer will NOT create a Start Menu entry, registry entry, uninstall program
or anything else, other than copying the relevant files to the proper folders. You may
install to a temporary folder by pressing the ... button and copying things by hand if you wish.

1. Double click this GA592k4FRF.zip file archive to open it. You will find
this text file and a file called SetupGA59FRF.exe.

2. Double click the SetupGA59FRF.exe file to start the installation. Press the Run
button at the warning screen. If it doesn't find your FS2004 folder automatically,
press the ... button and browse to it. Follow the instructions to install.

3. Start FS2004 if not running, and go to the Settings/Scenery Library choice on the
opening screen. If you are currently flying, press Escape (Esc) and then End
Flight to get to Settings/Scenery Library.

IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A CALCLASSIC CORE SCENERY LAYER SKIP TO STEP 5!!

4. Click on the Add Area button. Double click the ADDON SCENERY folder.
Single click the CalClassic Core folder. The box at the botton should read CalClassic Core. Click OK. Click the Move Down button until the CalClassic Core layer is below all your classic scenery layers.

5. Now you need to create a scenery layer to conveniently turn the classic GA traffic on and off. If there is no CalClassic GA Traffic scenery layer listed, press the Add Area... button. Double click the Addon Scenery folder, and then single click on the CalClassic GA Traffic folder. The box near the bottom should say CalClassic GA Traffic.

6. Click OK. You will now have a CalClassic GA Traffic scenery layer at the top of the list, with a red check mark in the box. I normally use the Move Down button to move it next to my CalClassic AI Traffic folders (for convenience). Click OK. Quit FS.

7. YOU MUST DO THIS: Download, install, and modify the aircraft as listed in the aircraft download list.txt file.

8. Restart FS to see the changes.

Traffic includes flights to and from Pancho Barnes' Happy Bottom Riding Club just outside Edwards Air Force Base. You can download Nigel Mason's FS2002 scenery from Flightsim.com. It fits well in FS2004.

UNINSTALL:

You may install the regular version over the top of this frame rate friendly version; all required changes will be made. You must install the new planes though.

Temporary:

1. Go back to the FS2004 Scenery Library, and uncheck the CalClassic GA Traffic box to inactivate it. Click OK.

Permanent:

1. Do step 1 above. Then quit FS and delete the CalClassic GA Traffic folder.

2. Remove any aircraft folders installed for this package from the FS2004 AIRCRAFT folder, if desired. Do not delete default aircraft folders!

Known Issues:

Airports located below sea level like Furnace Creek in Death Valley and Brawley in the Imperial Valley do not support AI traffic. AI aircraft show up in the parking places but will disappear when they start to taxi. This is a known issue with FS9. I have scheduled flights in and out of these airports to complete the traffic at the departure and arrival airports for flights scheduled to these airports.
