INSTALLATION

This EXE installer will NOT create a Start Menu entry, registry entry, uninstall program
or anything else, other than copying the relevant files to the proper folders. You may
install to a temporary folder by pressing the ... button and copying things by hand if you wish.

1. Quit FS2004 if running.

2. If you have a very old version of CA59 installed,in Windows Explorer or My Computer
go to the FS2004\Addon Scenery folder. Delete the CA59 folder by clicking once on the folder
and then pressing the Delete key.

3. ***IMPORTANT*** Download and install the scenery libraries contained in the Classic Scenery Libraries v4 or later
(File 1 and File 2) compiled by Wolfgang Gersch, if you have not done so already. Latest links at the top of
http://www.calclassic.com/scenery.htm

4. Download and install the EZ-Scenery Libraries, available from: http://www.abacuspub.com/pub/AbacusEZLibraries.exe

5. Open this ca592k4.zip file by double clicking it. You will find
this text file and a file called SetupCA59.exe.

6. Double click the SetupCA59.exe file to start the installation. Press the Run button
at the warning screen. If it doesn't find your FS2004 folder automatically, press the
... button and browse to it. Follow the instructions to install.

NOTE FOR NEXT STEPS: If you have already installed some of my scenery packages,
you may have at least some of the required scenery layers installed. If so, skip that
step (see below).

7. Start FS2004, and go to the Settings/Scenery Library choice on the
opening screen. If you are currently flying, press Escape (Esc) and then End
Flight to get to this screen. Look at the entire list. If there is no
CalClassic Landclass area listed there, click on the Add Area button. Double click the
ADDON SCENERY folder. Click the CalClassic Landclass folder once. Click OK.

For System 7 or later: The box will remain open. Click the white area of the box to close it.
This is also true for all steps below.

8. If there is no CalClassic Core area listed there, click on the Add Area button.
Double click the ADDON SCENERY folder. Click the CalClassic Core folder once.
Click OK.

9. IMPORTANT! Click the CalClassic Core layer so it is highlighted. Press the
Move Down button until it is layered BELOW any other Classic Scenery installations.
Repeat for the CalClassic Landclass layer.

10. If there is no CA62 area listed there, click on the Add Area button.
Double click the ADDON SCENERY folder. Click the CA62 folder once.
Click OK. Click the red check mark to remove the check from the CA62 box
(if you want 1959 active).

11. If there is no CA59 area listed there, click on the Add Area button.
Double click the ADDON SCENERY folder. Click the CA59 folder once.
Click OK. Click the red check mark to remove the check from the CA59 box
(if you want 1962 active).

NOTE: The scenery layers should be kept in this order:

CA59
CA62
Your other classic addon scenery packages
CalClassic Core (should be placed below all classic addon scenery packages)
CalClassic Landclass

Either the CA59 *OR* CA62 scenery layer should be active, NOT BOTH.
You will get the entire scenery either way, just customized for that year.

12. Scroll down by dragging the scroll button on the right to the San Francisco Aerial
Photo layer and uncheck it.

13. Scroll down by dragging the scroll button on the right to the Los Angeles Aerial
Photo layer and uncheck it.

14. If you have any modern addon scenery for California airports (LAX, SFO, jetways, etc.) uncheck
the scenery's Active box to inactivate it.

15. Click OK. Quit and restart FS.

16. If at the main screen, choose Create Flight at the left, select desired items, and
press Fly Now. Now choose Options/Settings/Display. Under Scenery Objects set the
Scenery Density to Dense or less (setting to Very or Extremely Dense will display modern
jetways at default airports outside of CA). Also, set the Autogen Density to Normal (any
higher will display telephone poles in odd places at the CA airports); this will also
simulate the less dense cities found in the era. Click OK.

The two large airports in this scenery (SFO and LAX) will be hardest on the frame rate. If you
have a less powerful computer and you get low frame rates, try setting the Scenery Density to
Normal or lower. This will remove detail objects and improve the frame rate.

17. If you are using Addon mesh (Megascenery, FSGenesis, etc.) and you find odd hills
at Long Beach and/or LAX, remove these files in the FS2004/Addon Scenery/CalClassic Core/
Scenery folder: KLGB_Flatten_1/2, KLAX_Flatten_1/2/3. Restart FS.

18. (Optional) If you want white taxiway lines AROUND THE WORLD, rename the
taxiway_marks.bmp file found in the FS2004 TEXTURE folder to
taxiway_marks.bmp.yellow. Then copy the taxiway_marks.bmp file found in
the FS2004/Addon Scenery/CA59 folder to the FS2004 TEXTURE folder. Restart
FS.

If using FSX, do the same thing with the taxiway_marks.dds file found in the FSX Texture folder.

If you want yellow lines again, rename this current taxiway_marks.bmp file to
taxiway_marks.bmp.white, and rename the taxiway_marks.bmp.yellow file to
taxiway_marks.bmp. Restart FS.

19. If you later want to fly in the modern era, just go into the Scenery Library
(Settings/Scenery Library) and click on the Enabled box next to the
CA59, CA62, CalClassic Core, and CalClassic Landclass entries until the red check
marks are removed to deactivate the 1959/1962 scenery (do not deactivate the Static
Objects Library layer). Click on the checkboxes for the San Francisco Aerial Photo
and Los Angeles Aerial Photo layers to reactivate them. If you backdated the appearance
of the LAX Theme building, copy the files in the Namw\Modern LAX Textures into the
Namw\Texture folder. If you have white taxiways, revert to yellow by renaming the
current taxiway_marks.bmp file in the FS2004 TEXTURE folder to taxiway_marks.bmp.white,
and rename the taxiway_marks.bmp.yellow file to taxiway_marks.bmp. Activate any inactivated
addon scenery areas for California. You must restart FS after you do all of this.

Reverse this process again to go back to 1959 (or 1962). Remember to check EITHER
the CA59 or CA62 layers, NOT BOTH.

TOUR YOUR NEW SCENERY!

Refer to the Flight Plans.html file in the FS2004/Addon Scenery/CA59 folder for "tourist"
flights from real timetables of the era, and instructions on how to load these premade
plans into the FS flight planner. They will allow you to tour the scenery. For your own
flight plans refer to the Flight Planner.txt file for details on using the FS2004 flight
planner.

airliners can be downloaded free from Tom Gibson's Classic Airliner web site at -
