INSTALLATION:

This EXE installer will NOT create a Start Menu entry, registry entry, uninstall program or anything else, other than copying the relevant files to the proper folders.  You may install to a temporary folder by pressing the ... button and copying things by hand if you wish.

You will install a "Base Pack" file containing everything you need, along with a single livery.  If you want more liveries of this specific aircraft, you will install the textures (only) into the Base Pack folder, and add a new livery section into the plane's aircraft.cfg file.

NOTE:  You must install the DC-6B CB-16 Base Pack to get a panel and sounds!

Quit FS if it is running before installation.

1.  Using My Computer or Windows Explorer, examine your FS2004/Aircraft folder for a folder called DC-6.  If you find it, rename the aircraft.cfg file inside it to aircraft_old.cfg.  If you have added any extra liveries, you will use this backup file to add the extra livery sections to the new aircraft.cfg file.  YOU WILL LOSE YOUR ADDED LIVERY SECTIONS (if any) IF YOU DO NOT BACK UP THIS FILE.

2.  Double click this zip file archive to open it.  You will find this text file and a file called Setup.exe.

3.  Double click the Setup.exe file to start the installation.  Press the Run button at the warning screen.  If it doesn't find your main FS2004 folder automatically, press the ... button and browse to it.  If you prefer, press the ... button and install to a temporary folder.  Then copy the files and folders manually into FS.  Follow the instructions to finish the installation.

4.  To add more liveries to this Base Pack or to replace the liveries from your old aircraft.cfg file (other than the Base Pack livery), follow the instructions found in the Adding Liveries.txt file in the plane's folder.
 
5. Follow the instructions in the Start Here.htm file in the XXX PANEL OPERATIONS folder to operate this panel.  XXX = the panel/plane type, inside the panel's main folder.

6.  If the VC is too dark for you at night, open the plane's aircraft.cfg file and in the Lights section, remove the // from the left side of the lines that end fx_vclight.  Start with only one or two lines, and increase the number of active lines until you are happy with the light level.  Reload the plane each time you edit the cfg file.  The VC darkness at night will vary with your monitor's brightness setting, and thus must be optimized for your monitor.

NOTE:  Certain gauges require FSUIPC to be installed into your flight sim program.  Get it here:  http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html  You must install the correct version for your flight sim version!

After installation of all the files, start FS2004 and the plane(s) will appear in the Select Aircraft menu.  If you see duplicated variation entries, you did not remove all old aircraft.

Douglas Aircraft knew it had a winner with the DC-4, since it was obvious 
that with hundreds of military examples it would become the standard 
post-war long distance airliner. However, the presence of the Lockheed 
L-049, which was generating significant orders, led Douglas to decide 
to develop a stretched and improved version of the DC-4. Since the two 
major advantages of the L-049 were speed and pressurization, the new DC-6 
would be powered by new and powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 engines, 
stretched by almost 7 feet over the DC-4, and would be pressurized to 
allow the plane to fly at fuel-economical high altitude, which also 
avoided the worst weather. Since this decision was made during WWII, it's 
not surprising that the actual DC-6 prototype was built to a USAAF 
requirement, the XC-112. The first flight didn't occur until February 15, 
1946, however, and with the end of the war the military had little use for 
the plane. Douglas quickly converted it into a commercial project, which 
became the DC-6. 

The airlines had seen the potential of the XC-112 long before the war 
ended, and orders were placed as early as September 1944 for post-war 
deliveries. American Airlines received the first plane (from it's 50 plane 
order) in November 1946, with United Air Lines following with it's 20 plane 
order. However, United had the honor of introducing the DC-6 into scheduled 
service, on the one-stop US transcontinental route, making the flight in only 
10 hours. This compares quite favorably with the 11 hours taken by the L-049 
Connie and 14 hours by the DC-4. The DC-6 did have one black mark on it's 
record; the plane was grounded for 4 months from November 12, 1947 following 
two internal fuselage fires. The last DC-6 was delivered to Braniff on 
November 2, 1951, the production line being used instead for the stretched 
DC-6B, with better economics (although slightly reduced performance). A total 
of 175 DC-6's were produced, and proved to be very reliable performers. 
Because of this reliability and ruggedness, many DC-6's are still flying 
today, mostly in cargo work.
